If He told you what He was doing, you wouldn’t believe it.

Updated: Mar 22

In the book of Genesis, there are a few chapters that are full of the lineage of Noah. These chapters include hundreds of names and oftentimes, we skim the words… or even skip the chapters altogether. I am guilty of both lol.

But just the other day, I was talking to my friend and she was telling me an extremely short story about one of these names that were listed in the lineage of Noah – Enoch.

We’ve all heard of Enoch. He is one of the descendants of Noah and he was one of the two people in the Bible who never died.

Genesis 5:21-24 says,

“When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”

The question is: Why do you think God just took Enoch? Why did Enoch not have to die?

The Bible doesn’t give us many details regarding the story of this man, but it does give us one key detail that completely answers our question.

Enoch walked faithfully with God.

Enoch had faith. And God rewarded that faith.

The same goes for you – God rewards your faith.

Maybe you’re in a desert valley right now, and you feel like nothing is going the way you want it to go. Maybe you just lost your job, or your relationship isn’t working. Maybe you are feeling so isolated and lonely in a busy world, or maybe __________ (you fill in the blank).

If this is you, read these next words carefully. I plead with you, do not lose your faith in God.

Nothing will drive you to God more than suffering or pain. The most broken people who are followers of Jesus are sometimes the most like Jesus – kind, compassionate, loving, and gentle.

They have been through so much, yet they are still so faithful to their Lord and Savior.

As you weep, know that it is not pointless. He is doing something unbelievable. Cherish it and hold it in your heart.

In Habakkuk 1, Habakkuk is crying out to God – pleading with Him to take away this pain and suffering that has been inflicted on the people of Israel. He cried, “Lord, please tell me what you are doing!” God answered and said, “Habakkuk, if I told you what I was doing, you wouldn’t believe it.

Have faith! Your story is not over.
